SsangYong has thrown its hat into the compact SUV ring with the bold Actyon SUV. Built on a modified version of the ladder frame chassis from the Actyon Sports working class ute, the Actyon SUV was developed at limited cost to the South Korean car-maker. SsangYong says the Actyon, which starts at $29,990, will compete against highly respected models such as the Nissan X-Trail, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, all of which are car-based wagons with mild AWD systems. The Actyon has a more serious four-wheel drive system which is good for off-road work, but not suitable for use on tarmac.
