AS THE fourth Smart model to go on sale in Australia, the Mitsubishi Colt-based ForFour represents the most conventional offering to emerge from the niche-market subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz manufacturer DaimlerChrysler. Priced between the FourTwo coupe and cabrio, and the Smart Roadster at $23,900 for the 1.3 and $25,900 for the 1.5, ForFour departs from the current Smart line-up by being a five-door hatch with a conventional front-wheel drive layout and seating for, you gussed it, four. But whether Australians embrace the idea of a compact, fuel-efficient city car with individual styling and a premium pricetag - as the public has in Europe - remains to be seen.
