Skoda teases Superb Scout wagon

BY ROBBIE WALLIS | 21st May 2019

SKODA has teased the soft-road Scout version of its Superb large car ahead of a public debut in Bratislava, Slovakia on May 23.

The Czech car-maker released a short teaser video on its social media channels showing both the regular facelifted Superb sedan and the Scout wagon, with the soft-road nameplate joining the line-up for the first time.

While the smaller Octavia Scout wagon is offered Down Under, there are no current plans to bring the Superb Scout, instead sticking to the regular sedan and wagon range.

The teaser video reveals few concrete details about the Scout, other than it comes in a wagon body style with signature ‘Scout’ badging.

Punters can expect it to feature similar styling cues to the Octavia Scout, including black cladding around the wheelarches and side skirts, and silver front and rear bumpers.

Engine choices for the Scout will most likely be 2.0-litre petrol or diesel engines, with all-wheel drive and a form of terrain-response system likely given its adventure-driven ethos.

Current Superbs make use of a turbo-diesel engine producing 140kW/400Nm, while the petrol engine of identical size can be had in two states of tune, either 162kW/350Nm for the 162TSI or 206kW/350Nm in the top-spec 206TSI.

It has been confirmed that the updated Superb will feature a plug-in hybrid version in top-spec trim, however the electrified version is not destined for Australian showrooms.

Local versions will score the facelift’s new features, including updated styling, matrix LED headlights and a refreshed infotainment system ahead of an arrival in November.

Specification for Australian examples is also still being finalised.

To the end of April, sales of the Superb have lifted 33.6 per cent to 330 units, despite the large-car segment it plays in falling by nearly 30 per cent year-to-date.

Overall sales from the Czech brand are up 26.4 per cent through the first four months of the year, thanks largely to its Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs.

More information on the facelifted Superb range will be revealed on May 23.
