SKODA has represented many things since its local arrival a decade ago next year – pragmatic value, clever features, hipster-niche coolness – but sexy styling has not rated a mention until the arrival of this Superb 206TSI 4x4 wagon.

From its chiselled jaw to its slimline tail-lights, and in this flagship variant multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels filling the guards, during our testing people passing by double-take constantly, probably looking in vain for an Audi badge on the rump of this Avant.

Indeed, the Superb 206TSI 4x4 wagon attempts to mix the turbocharged performance of an Audi Avant with legroom-lengthened luxury more in line with that brand’s A8 limousine.

Of course being a Skoda it is priced in flagship Holden Commodore/Calais territory at under $60K, which does beg the question: is this a premium sports-luxury wagon minus the premium?
