THE station wagon isn’t dead. It’s just waiting for some recognition.

While the original volume-production off-road family car was the Subaru LC wagon of the late 1970s, such car-based wagons seem to have drifted off the buyer radar.

Instead it’s all about big, round and tall multi-seat SUVs, most not really as capable off the road as the Subaru LC.

But there are manufacturers that uphold the legacy of the original Subaru, including that company’s latest Outback.

There’s also the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, the Audi A4 and A6 Allroad and this one – the Skoda Octavia Scout.

Now there’s a wagon for commuting, trail-breaking, shopping and moving furniture.
