SAAB's entry into the station wagon market turns out to be an impressive workhorse with outstanding on-road manners as well as a cosseting passenger environment. It picks up the safety of the 9-5 sedan and adds a useable cargo area without losing styling appeal. The 2.3 turbo is a strong performer but not as smooth as a six. Quality standards are high and so is safety - the 9-5 sedan presently rates as the safest car yet subjected to European NCAP barrier impact testing.
