THE big addition to the clean and sensible controls of the 9-3 for 2001 is an eight-function trip computer, which includes a trip distance meter, average fuel consumption, average speed, programmed arrival time, external temperature, speed warning, distance to empty and alarm clock. Of course, the ignition key remains mounted in the floor between the seats - a true Saab signature item. Everything else works pretty sensibly, although the indicator stalk is mounted on the left rather than the right, which also incorporates the slightly fussy cruise controls.
