THE Aero version of Saab's strong selling prestige convertible is the least sporty of the impressive new range of Swedish middle-weight 9-3 hot-shots (the 165kW Viggen coupe is the heavyweight) but it is an arresting soft-top nevertheless with a very useable power band, purposeful suspension and no lack of luxury items. The smaller, only slightly less powerful 151kW engine is more user-friendly than the wheel-wrenching Viggen 2.3-litre, which makes it an easier car to live with, in just about all circumstances. And it is about $20,000 cheaper, although still a lot more expensive than the volume selling 9-3S convertible.
