Renault reboots Trafic Formula Edition van
RENAULT Australia has reintroduced the limited Trafic Formula Edition mid-size van range, building on the previous version released in May last year and priced from $41,990 plus on-roads for the short-wheelbase variant.
The Trafic Formula Edition is also available in long-wheelbase guise, which adds an extra $1500 to the asking price to come in at $43,490.
Based on the 103kW variants, the Formula Edition charges $3500 over its donor vehicle but adds a number of extra features.
Fans will be able to distinguish the Formula Edition by its special exterior livery, which can be had in either White or Storm Grey base paint, highlighted with Formula 1-inspired red detailing on the side and front grille finisher.
The Formula Edition also scores LED daytime running lights in the front valance, foglights with bright red surrounds, body-coloured front and rear bumpers, sliding door-rail surround and rear corner pillar trim, a stainless-steel rear bumper lip and black 17-inch Cyclade alloy wheels.
Inside, the Formula Edition gains a number of new equipment upgrades, including Java dark cloth upholstery, a heated driver’s seat and Renault’s premium dashboard which includes a dashtop storage compartment, chrome instrument panel surround, gloss-black side air-vent surrounds, chrome-plated gear knob trim, a leather-covered gear knob and chrome-plated speaker surrounds.
The Formula Edition also includes a high-security deadlock system, climate control, and 9mm timber hardwood flooring for a more premium feel.
No changes have been made in the powertrain department, with the Formula Edition carrying over the Trafic’s 1.6-litre twin-turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing 103kW/340Nm and mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission.
Renualt Australia LCV product manager Lyndon Healey said the Formula Edition was good for attracting new customers to Renault’s van range.
“Over the past few years the exclusive Formula Edition has brought many new customers to Renault LCV,” he said.
“In addition to referencing Renault Sport’s involvement in Formula 1, the feature-rich list of extra equipment and the standout design elements really appeal to SME and tradie buyers.”
Sales of the Trafic have remained uncannily steady through the first seven months of 2019, with just two extra sales over the same period for a year-on-year increase of 0.2 per cent.
The Trafic ranks fourth in the mid-size-van segment with 1141 sales, behind the Toyota HiAce (3487), Hyundai iLoad (2557) and Ford Transit Custom (1197).
