Renault concocts new Trafic Formula

RENAULT Australia has reintroduced its limited-run Trafic Formula Edition van that gets an array of extras for a $4000 premium over standard Trafic variants.

This time, a total of 125 of the medium vans are headed to Australia, with the short-wheelbase Formula Edition priced from $41,990 plus on-roads, and the long-wheelbase version going for $43,490.

Inspired by Renault’s Formula One racing heritage and livery, the Formula Edition gets body coloured front bumper, rear light surrounds and door rail, black 17-inch Cyanide alloy wheels with yellow centre caps, blacked-out bonnet badge, yellow upper and lower grille inserts, yellow foglight surrounds, Formula Edition side stripes and an anti-theft spare wheel holder.

Daytime running lights are also included, while available hues are Storm Grey and Jet Black.

Inside, the Formula Edition comes with dark Java cloth upholstery with heated driver’s seat, 7.0-inch touchscreen media system, premium dashboard with storage compartment, chrome instrument panel surround, gloss black side air vent surrounds, leather-covered gear selector with chrome-plated trim, chrome-plated speaker surround, Formula Edition floor mats, wide-view mirror, deadlock security system and LED ceiling lights.

The Formula Edition is powered by the 103kW/340Nm 1.6-litre twin-turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Renault Australia LCV product manager Lyndon Healey said the popularity of the Formula Edition, which was also released in 2017, justified its return.

“The Renault Trafic Formula Edition was extremely well received in 2017, and so we immediately contacted the factory to obtain a second batch for 2018,” he said.

“Renault Trafic has been growing its sales and market share over the past three years and the arrival of the Formula Edition will add even more sparkle to a well-polished diamond.”Through the first four months of 2018, Renault has sold 648 Trafics, a 24.6 per cent increase over the same period last year.

It sits third in the segment behind the Toyota HiAce (2043) and Hyundai iLoad (1413).
