TWO four-cylinder engines are used in the current Scenic range, a 1.6-litre powering the entry-level Expression model and a 2.0-litre unit for Dynamique and Privilege models. Both are DOHC 16-valve engines that require premium unleaded, the 2.0-litre featuring variable valve timing for greater flexibility. The 1.6-litre outputs 79kW at 5750rpm and 148Nm at 3750rpm - with 90 per cent of power available between 2500 and 5500rpm - while the 2.0-litre delivers 101kW at 5500rpm and 188Nm at 3750rpm. The claimed acceleration time from 0-100km/h for the 2.0-litre engine tested here is 10.2 seconds (manual), with official fuel consumption figures pointing to 9.0 L/100km over the city cycle and 7.0L/100km on the highway.
