Megane cabriolet range doubled

BY MALCOLM LIVERMORE | 19th Jun 2003

RENAULT Australia has doubled the Megane Cabriolet line-up with the release of a new luxury variant, the Privilege, featuring new full-leather seat trim.

It also adds a trip computer, adjustable head restraints, colour-coded rear licence plate surround, illuminated vanity mirrors and seat-back map pockets.

Mechanically, the Privilege is identical to the Expression base model, being powered by the same 79kW/148Nm 1.6-litre engine matched to either a five-speed manual or four-speed Proactive automatic transmission.

Pricing for the Expression remains unchanged at $41,490 (m) and $43,990 (a), while the Privilege is $43,990 (m) and $46,490 (a).

The current Megane is heading toward the end of its life, with a folding steel and glass roof replacement already revealed in Europe.

The new generation Megane cabrio is expected on sale here around mid 2004.
