Renault lobs special-edition Koleos SUV

RENAULT Australia has released a special-edition version of its Koleos medium SUV, dubbed the S-Edition, that is based on the top-spec 4x2 Intens and arrives in local showrooms priced from $44,990 driveaway.

The S-Edition sits second from top in the petrol-powered Koleos range behind the Intens 4x4, which is priced at $43,490 plus on-road costs. The diesel Koleos is still the most expensive variant at $46,990 plus on-roads.

A blue theme is present throughout the S-Edition’s interior, with blue trim elements and contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel and shift lever, as well as black and blue perforated leather seats. S-Edition sill plates are also new.

Outside the S-Edition gains 19-inch alloy wheels borrowed from the Initiale Paris edition sold overseas, as well as metallic black mirror caps and subtle S-Edition badging.

Four exterior colours are available, including Meissen Blue, Universal White, Solid White and Grey Metallic.

The S-Edition employs the same 2.5-litre aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine as the regular Koleos variants, which produces 126kW/226Nm mated to a continuously-variable transmission.

Renault Australia managing director Andrew Moore said the S-Edition was the result of customer demand for a more luxurious 4x2 variant.

“Since the new Koleos went on sale in the second half of 2016, we experienced customer and dealer demand for a highly specified 4x2 variant to join our already compelling line-up,” he said.

“We’re confident this new addition will boost interest and sales levels still further.

“And with our five-year factory warranty and capped price servicing, the Renault Koleos continues to offer an extremely attractive ownership package compared with its rivals.”

Through the first half of 2018, Renault has sold 1763 examples of the Koleos, up 16.4 per cent for the year and enough to make it the best seller for the brand ahead of the Trafic medium van (1030).

It is still well behind the segment leaders in the medium SUV space, which includes the Mazda CX-5 (13,847), Toyota RAV4 (11,770), Nissan X-Trail (10,524) and Hyundai Tucson (10,280).
