Renault launches limited Koleos Black Edition

BY MATT BROGAN | 9th Mar 2022

RENAULT has released a new mid-tier and limited-edition Koleos variant as part of the SUV’s MY22 update.

The Koleos Black Edition, priced from $40,090 plus on-road costs, slots between the front-wheel drive Zen and Intens variants in the Koleos line-up, adding a list of extras Renault Australia general manager Glen Sealey says bring added style to the practical family hauler.

“The Koleos Black Edition marks a design highlight in the wider range,” Mr Sealey said.

“While SUVs are, by far, the most popular vehicle choice for families, that doesn’t mean you have to leave style out of the buying process. We feel the Black Edition allows for style and practicality in one compelling package.”

The Koleos Black Edition 19-inch dark grey alloy wheels, gloss black roof rails, door mirrors and side steps, ‘Limited’ badging, French flags on the B-pillar, a power tailgate, and a choice of three metallic paint tones: Black, Grey or White.

Inside, the Koleos Black Edition features black leatherette upholstery with contrasting yellow stitching, matte carbon-look garnishing, an 8.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and Limited badging on the chrome door sill covers.

Renault Australia will offer just 400 examples of the Koleos Black Edition nationally.

Elsewhere, changes to the Koleos range are minor. The Easy Life package becomes available for the second-tier Zen variant brining a powered tailgate and 8.7-inch infotainment array to the model for an additional $2000. The line-up remains otherwise unchanged.

Renault has sold 818 examples of the Koleos to date this year, making it the ninth most popular model in the Medium SUV under $60,000 segment.

According to VFACTS data, the now six-year-old second generation Koleos was outsold by the Toyota RAV4 (5879 units), Mazda CX-5 (4478 units), Mitsubishi Outlander (3025 units), Subaru Forester (2738 units), Kia Sportage (2406 units), twin-under-the-skin Nissan X-Trail (1515 units), Hyundai Tucson (1506 units), and Honda CR-V (1274 units. The MG HS rounds out the top-ten with 776 unit sales.

GoAuto understands the Koleos will be replaced by a three-row version of the Austral (nee Kadjar) when production of the current model ends next year (2023). The longer seven-seat model will give Renault a direct competitor to the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 and will be produced alongside the Austral at Renault’s Palencia facility in Spain.

Renault’s Austral, which is set to arrive mid-year, is similar in size to the current Koleos at 4510mm in length. The model is understood to be offered with a choice of 1.3-litre TCe turbo-petrol engine, and with hybrid, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options.
