THOUGH independent crash test results of the current-generation Clio conducted overseas have been unflattering, the Renault Sport sold here is extremely well equipped. In addition to the strong active safety characteristics such as excellent handling, direct steering and strong braking performance, the passive safety measures run to dual front and seat-mounted side airbags (the latter helping protect the head and thorax in a side-impact), pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioners and load-limiting devices for front occupants. The front positions also employ unique safety-oriented headrests. The rear seating positions also include an anti-submarining lap-sash seatbelt and a head restraint.
