Porsche launches Platinum Edition Cayenne

PORSCHE is offering a value-boosting special edition for its three most affordable Cayenne large SUV variants, with the Platinum Edition adding a range of aesthetic enhancements and equipment for V6 petrol, Diesel and S E-Hybrid versions.

For the entry-level Cayenne and Cayenne Diesel, the Platinum Edition pumps the price by $3100 and $2800 respectively but adds a claimed $13,590 worth of extra equipment, while the S E-Hybrid gains features worth $11,600 for a price reduction of $4100.

Priced from $136,700 plus on-road costs, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition has a sportier exterior look with 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels housed in fatter wheelarch extensions complemented by a stealthy gloss-black exterior package.

Headlights are upgraded to bi-Xenon versions and include Porsche’s Dynamic Light System, which alters the light beam aim according to steering angle and vehicle speed.

On the inside, the Platinum-badged hybrid is fitted with GTS sports seats (with the Porsche horse and antlers crest on the headrests), eight-way electrical adjustment and Alcantara centre upholstery.

A Bose surround sound stereo is also part of the Platinum package, as is Connected Plus, which brings wireless internet access, real-time traffic information, Google Earth and Street View, Apple CarPlay and compatibility with Porsche’s Connect smartphone application.

The non-electrified Cayenne and Cayenne Diesel are priced from $110,700 and $108,900 (plus on-road costs) respectively for the Platinum Edition, featuring all of the hybrid’s extras plus heated front seats and Porsche’s Power Steering Plus system, which alters steering feel according to driving conditions.

As an S variant, the regular Hybrid already has these features as standard.

Stainless-steel treadplates (illuminated on the hybrid) pressed with the ‘Platinum Edition’ name completes the Platinum treatment for all three.

Customers can order their Platinum Edition in either flat black or white or the metallic tones of Carrara White, Jet Black, Mahogany and Rhodium Silver for no extra cost. A special optional Purpurit colour is also available.

For the rest of the SUV it is business as usual, with the base petrol Cayenne powered by a 3.6-litre V6 petrol with 220kW of power and 400Nm of torque. The Diesel ups the torque to 580Nm with its 193kW 3.0-litre diesel, and both models variants drive all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid combines a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 245kW and 440Nm and official combined-cycle fuel consumption of 3.4 litres per 100km, and shares the same transmission as the combustion-only versions.

Porsche’s large SUV continues to be its second most popular model with 405 examples finding homes in Australia to the end of March this year, while the Macan compact SUV is the German sportscar brand’s top-selling vehicle with 712 sales over the same period.

The Platinum Edition is available to order now, with first deliveries expected in late August.
