THE 911's torsional stiffness has been improved 50 per cent, offering improved crumple behaviour in the event of an accident. Deformation energy is absorbed by three separate tiers, which distribute the forces and minimise deformation of the passenger cell. A front deformation zone protects the fuel tank, while the fuel lines are located outside this area. The steering column allows for 100mm of deformation in the case of frontal impact. Low-angle headlights provide a wide field of vision. Front and rear fog lamps are fitted as standard. A third brake light is integrated into the rear spoiler. Interior door lights illuminate the ground when exiting the car (white light) and warn approaching traffic of an open door (red light). A unique system of longitudinal and transverse members patented by Porsche is used at the front of the car.
