Second-generation 5008

BY THE GOAUTO TEAM | 6th Jul 2018

Peugeot launched its reborn 5008 in Australia in February 2018, fronting up with an all-new, premium-placed seven-seat mid-size SUV – a far cry from the previous-generation 5008 that was a people-mover sold here from 2013 to 2015.

The transformation from MPV to SUV brought a vehicle that was longer, wider, more spacious, versatile and even slightly lighter.

It was fully up to date in terms of design and technology, but, with no four-wheel-drive version available, did not stray too far from the original idea of appealing to suburban-bound families rather than weekend warriors.

The new 5008 had much in common with the shorter five-seat 3008 and was launched in three generously equipped variants: Allure, GT-Line and GT.

The Allure and GT-Line both used Peugeot’s 121kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, while the top-spec GT used a 133kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. Both drove the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
