The 406 Coupe's 3.0-litre, 24-valve V6 engine is the same unit used in the sedan, producing 140kW at 5500rpm and 267Nm at 4000rpm

The engine is mated to an electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. A five-speed manual is a reduced-cost option

The coupe is 60mm longer and 60mm lower than its sedan sibling, emphasising its individuality.

It rides 12mm lower than the sedan and features a wider track to enhance both looks and handling

The power-assisted rack and pinion steering is height adjustable over 35mm and length adjustable over 27mm

The four-wheel disc brakes are controlled by the fifth-generation Bosch anti-lock system

The heated rear-view mirrors are electrically adjustable and painted a speckled grey so as not to detract from the overall appearance of the car

It rides on 7x16-inch aluminium rims shod with 215/55R16 tyres

The frameless side windows, which are 5mm thick, automatically slide down 10mm when the doors are opened

The windscreen wiper is controlled by a rain sensor located at the top of the windscreen surround. The rear view mirror has an auto dipping mode

The interior dimensions of the coupe are similar to those of the sedan but the layout and trim are different

The dash is identical to the 406 sedan in layout but has chrome bevelled instruments

The wood-trim dashboard of the sedan is replaced by a leather- grained Ouragan grey item with a metallic grey moulding

The leather steering wheel has a sporty new design and is fitted with a 45-litre airbag

The electrically-adjustable, leather-covered front seats are situated 20mm lower than in the sedan to ensure headroom is not compromised by the lower roof

The seats glide forward electrically to allow entry to the rear section

A CD player mounted in the boot is standard as is cruise control and climate control
