Peugeot slashes 207 prices

Although 207 is the biggest-selling model in the $25,000-plus light-car market, holding close to 50 per cent share in the niche segment, the latest VFACTS figures show that sales of the 207 hatchback and Touring are down 27 per cent year to date.
As GoAuto reported in a prestige small car analysis piece published earlier this week, this segment does not include the Mini Cooper – a consistently strong-selling model that is up 33 per cent YTD – and is set to expand in the coming months with all-new models including the Citroen DS3 and, early next year, the Audi A1.
In the sports cabriolet segment, sales of Peugeot’s 207 CC steel-roofed convertible are also down 16 per cent this year, while the Mini Cooper Cabrio, by comparison, has recorded 93.5 per cent sales growth.
After introducing a substantial mid-life upgrade for the 207 in December last year, and progressively introducing slightly tweaked engines that meet the tough Euro 5 emissions standard since then, Peugeot has now cut between $1800 and $2000 across the 207 range, with the entry-level XR 1.4-litre petrol hatch kicking off the range at $19,990.
The 1.4 and 1.6-litre normally aspirated petrol models have received a $2000 cut, while the 1.6-litre HDi turbo-diesel and 1.6 turbo-petrol coupe-cabriolet all benefit from an $1800 price reduction.
Only the 1.6 turbo-petrol three-door GTi remains at its previous $33,490 mark, although Peugeot advises that production was discontinued in April and only “a small number” of vehicles remain in dealer stock in Australia.
The switch to Euro 5 has not altered engine outputs, but consumption and emissions have fallen. For example, the 65kW/133Nm 1.4-litre manual is now at 6.2L/100km (down 0.2L) and CO2 is at 146g/km (down 6g), while the 88kW/160Nm 1.6-litre automatic is now at 6.9L/100km (down 0.1L) and 160g/km (down 5g).
The 80kW/240Nm 1.6 HDi diesel now returns 4.5L/100km (down 0.2L) and the same level of CO2, at 120g/km.
