ALL 206 models have a diagonal split, dual circuit, and hydraulic braking system with load dependent distribution or compensation. The non-GTi versions have 247mm ventilated front disc brakes and use 180mm drums at the rear.

Four-sensor TEVES Mk20 anti-lock brakes are unavailable on the XR model and optional on XT. When specified, the rear drums increase to 203mm x 38mm.

Additional cooling air is directed towards the front brakes via scoops built into the front suspension arms.
