X-Trail gets adventurous

NISSAN Australia has released a limited-edition Adventure version of its X-Trail compact SUV, sales of which are almost 25 per cent down so far in 2009.

Limited to 600 examples, the X-Trail Adventure Edition is based on the entry-level X-Trail ST ($32,990, or $35,490 as an auto) and is priced $1000 higher at $33,990 ($36,490 auto), yet brings a claimed $2000-plus of additional features.

While there are no changes to the X-Trail’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (mated to both six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions), extras include 16-inch alloy wheels, a front nudge bar, roof bars, cargo blind, rear privacy glass and unique ‘Adventure Edition’ badging.

An “expression of Nissan’s Sports Adventure program”, the X-Trail Adventure Edition will be available in three exterior paint colours: Platinum, White Diamond and an exclusive new hue, Burning Red.

As part of Nissan Sports Adventure, the company’s commercial outdoor sports platform, Nissan has been involved with cult ski and snowboard film-maker Warren Miller, as well as Mount Hotham, the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and Olympic medallist Robin Bell.
