PATROL Ti features an all-new 4.8-litre, DOHC 24-valve, four-cylinder petrol engine with variable valve timing and Nissan's so-called Induction Control System. Codenamed TB48DE, the engine produces 185kW of power at 4800rpm and 420Nm of torque at 3600rpm and, mated to the new five-speed automatic, improves acceleration times over the previous 4.5-litre engine/four-speed auto by 20 per cent from standstill to 100km, 20 per cent in the 60-80km/h range and 37 per cent between 100km/h and 120km/h. Though considered a commercial vehicle and therefore not required to meet the AS2877 fuel consumption standard, Nissan claims fuel consumption has dropped 9 per cent in automatic variants and 5 per cent when a manual transmission (ST only) is fitted. The 95-litre main fuel tank and 36-litre sub-fuel tanks take normal unleaded petrol.
