WITHOUT a doubt, the new 4.8-litre petrol engine and five-speed automatic transmission have given Patrol a new lease on life. Despite the claims that fuel consumption has improved, the Nissan behemoth still drinks huge amounts of regular unleaded petrol and also remains an awkward vehicle to drive around the suburbs. Yet now aided further with the bigger engine, the Patrol Ti remains a comfortable tourer on the open road and a proficient rock-hopper when the terrain gets tough. Given many of these models go to suburban homes, we must continue to deplore the standard fitting of a bullbar. That said, there can be no consternation over the comfort and commanding position from the front seats.
