First look: Nissan wagon has outdoors in mind

BY NEIL MCDONALD | 12th Jan 2007

THE Bevel concept is a dynamic, multi-purpose vehicle that is aimed at empty nesters actively engaged in outdoor pursuits.

It offers van-like asymmetrical styling, three-zone interior and technology ranging from glass roof-mounted solar panels to drive-by-wire steering, throttle and braking.

The exterior design is panel van meets wagon, with two passenger-side doors featuring a rear door hinged at the rear to provide an exceptionally wide door opening.

The car's tall one-piece rear hatch features a special horizontal hinge arrangement, with a height when raised of more than 2m from the ground.

With the hatch open, a special tailgate-like work platform folds down and snaps into place, creating a sturdy workbench or seat. The Bevel also has a facility for housing your dog safely.

Integrated solar cells in the roof help provide power to a 12-volt outlet. Power comes from a 2.5-litre V6.
