MITSUBISHI has upgraded its popular Triton workhorse with new interior and exterior cosmetics and a higher-output 2.5-litre diesel engine for 4x4 variants. Addressing the one-tonne utility’s primary customer complaint is the availability of a longer, deeper pick-up bed for dual-cab versions, without impinging on the Triton’s class-leading first and second-row passenger accommodation. With the exception of the base models there are minimal price increases across the range, but Mitsubishi has simplified the Triton range by discontinuing the 3.5-litre petrol V6 and 3.2-litre diesel engines. But with more power and torque than the outgoing 3.2 – not to mention better fuel economy – the MY10 upgrade is far from a retrograde step for a commercial vehicle that continues to offer a class-leading four-star safety rating and is also the first to introduce electronic stability control across almost the entire diesel range.
