THE NM Pajero stepped up to a variable-ratio rack and pinion steering system to give improved driver feel and steering response better suited to the more dynamic all-independent chassis. A heavy-duty rack aims at coping with off-road use while a one-way hydraulic valve reduces steering kickback on rough surfaces. A reduction in the turning circle to 11.4 metres will be appreciated in all situations.
