MITSUBISHI made its Super Select four-wheel drive system standard across the Pajero range with the introduction of the NL model. The Super Select system uses a centre differential with a viscous coupling unit to allow the Pajero to be driven on the road in full-time four-wheel drive. Unlike other similar systems, the driver can also choose to run the Pajero in rear-wheel drive only, which is said to improve fuel economy. Super Select can be used on the move up to 100km/h. The transmission also incorporates a transfer box giving high or low ratios for road or off-road driving. The rear differential is limited-slip and a four-speed automatic is available on petrol-engined models only.
