GSR variant joins refreshed Pajero Sport range

MITSUBISHI has refreshed its Pajero Sport for 2022; the popular large SUV range’s line-up now includes an all-new GSR variant, which sits above the Exceed at the top of the range.

The Japanese importer has also added two-wheel-drive GLX and GLS derivatives to the MY22 Pajero Sport portfolio. The pair of on-road-focused newcomers deliver a stronger value proposition, Mitsubishi claims, although the four-wheel-drive variants of the Pajero Sport range have increased in price by between $1200 and $2000.

The new Pajero Sport GSR features unique black exterior and exterior accents, including black 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear bumper garnishes, grille, and roof rails. The flagship model is offered only in Black Mica or White Diamond paint finishes, the latter also featuring a black roof, and is priced from $60,490 (plus on-road costs).

At the other end of the Pajero Sport range, we find the new entry-grade GLX two-wheel drive.

Priced from $43,940 (plus ORCs), the five-seater features black cloth upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and push-button start, driver’s lumbar support (now offered across the MY22 Pajero Sport range), single-zone climate control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety features for the base Pajero Sport GLX include a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, daytime running lights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, hill-start assist, trailer sway control, stability and traction control, and seven airbags.

The Pajero Sport GLX is also offered with Mitsubishi Super Select II 4WD system for an additional $5000. The four-wheel drive system includes high-range two- and four-wheel drive, low-range four-wheel drive, a locking centre differential, and four selectable off-road modes: Gravel, Mud-Snow, Sand and Rock.

Above the GLX, the Pajero Sport GLS is available in two- and four-wheel drive, and with five- or seven-seat configurations.

Priced from $48,690 (plus ORCs), and in addition to those features listed for the GLX, the second-tier GLS includes two-tone 18-inch alloys, satnav, self-dimming rear-view mirror, auto headlight and wipers, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, privacy glass, upgraded audio system, a rear spoiler, and a rear differential lock (on the four-wheel-drive version).

The Pajero Sport GLS is further available with a Deluxe option on 4WD seven-seat models. It adds leather-appointed seats with front seat power adjustment, as well as Mitsubishi’s 360-degree Multi Around Monitor (MAM) for an additional $2250.

Above the GLS is the Pajero Sport Exceed. Priced from $59,190 (plus ORCs), the luxuriously appointed variant is available in four-wheel-drive guise and with seven seats only.

In addition to those features listed for the GLX and GLX Deluxe, the Exceed includes an 8.0-inch digital instrument panel, premium sound system, rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), blind spot warning (BSW), lane change assist (LCA), front parking sensors, heated front seats, remote tailgate functionality, and Apple Watch connectivity.

All features listed for the Pajero Sport Exceed are also offered on the new GSR variant.

For now, the MY22 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport range is available with a choice of seven paint colours including White, Sterling Silver, Graphite Grey, Terra Rossa (red), Black Mica, White Diamond, and Dark Blue – the latter to be discontinued from April production.

All Pajero Sport variants are powered by Mitsubishi’s 133kW/430Nm 2.4-litre MIVEC four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and all variants include as standard an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The MY22 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is available now.
