A GLARING omission from the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport when it arrived in late 2015 to replace the aged Challenger off-road SUV was a third row of seats.

It took almost a year for them to be introduced, which should have provided enough time for the Japanese company to think about how best to do it.

But as we found, Mitsubishi engineers have clearly treated Australia’s requirement for child seat top tethers as an afterthought and delivered a poor solution.

As such we would find it difficult to recommend the Pajero Sport to families with offspring young enough to require child restraints.

If your children are old enough to no longer require a child seat, you are in luck because there is a lot to like about the rest of the car.
