MITSUBISHI has revealed details of two new small petrol engines featuring an aluminium cylinder block and its MIVEC variable valve timing system.

Of most interest to Australia is the new 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, which will be first seen in the forthcoming new-generation Outlander four-wheel drive wagon.

Mitsubishi is claiming best-in-class power and torque figures of 125kW and 226Nm respectively – five per cent more output than the current (4G69) 2.4 MIVEC engine.

The second engine is a 47kW 659cc three-cylinder engine. Weight for both engines is down a claimed 10 per cent.
