Mitsubishi Outlander prices rise

MINOR exterior changes, interior improvements and additional safety equipment are part of a more expensive Mitsubishi Outlander range for the 2012 model year.

But the changes come at a price with the Outlander range being up to $1000 more expensive than before.

At the entry level, the Outlander LS two- and four-wheel drive models are now treated to a chrome grille surround, body-colour door handles, door trims and dash trimmed in a leather-look material, a new cloth seat material, extra sound deadening and the heated/cooled upper glovebox previously fitted only to high-end models.

An optional ($970) ‘convenience pack’ for the MY12 Outlander LS 5-seat model provides reversing sensors, Bluetooth hands-free with steering wheel controls and a reversing camera with the monitor mounted within the electro-chromatic interior mirror.

The price of the Outlander LS 2WD 5-seat model has risen $350 to $29,340 while the LS AWD 5-seater costs $250 more at $33,490.

LS four-wheel drive seven-seat models costs $250 more at $37,940 but gain Bluetooth, reversing sensors and the camera as standard equipment.

The Outlander XLS has partial leather seat trim, body-colour door handles and the rear-view camera and has gone up $500 to $40,990.

Pricing for the Outlander VR has risen $1000 to $41,990, with standard equipment now including Bluetooth, reversing camera, chrome front grille applique, leather-look dash and door cards, heated/cooled glovebox, new seat trim and body-colour door handles for MY12.

The VRX receives no changes for MY12 but the price is still $650 higher at $52,640.

XL and XLS Outlander models continue with the 125kW/226Nm 2.4-litre, four-cylinder MIVEC engine linked to a five-speed manual or CVT automatic, while the VR and VRX have the 169kW/291Nm 3.0-litre V6 MIVEC engine with a standard six-speed auto transmission.

Outlander sales have fallen 15.5 per cent in the first nine months of 2011 compared with the same period last year, according to the latest VFACTS figures.

With 5636 sales year-to-date, the Outlander’s segment market share has slipped from 7.8 per cent to 6.3 per cent.
