THE Mirage's body structure ensures it comfortably passes local crash test standards. Both the front and rear body sections are designed to crush progressively in a collision. The front side members, front upper members and rear side members are strengthened to further increase impact absorption.

Rollover protection was aided by strengthening the joints between the upper frame and front pillars. Reinforced door latches facilitate opening of the doors after a collision. Flame retardant materials have been used extensively.

No airbags are available as standard equipment dual front bags are grouped in an option pack. A lap-only centre rear belt is unsatisfactory and anti-lock brakes are unavailable. The front seats have seatbelt pretensioners but no seatbelt height adjustment lever on the B-pillar. Dashboard padding and thick door trim help protect the occupants.
