HOLDEN COMMODORE 4D SEDAN (1996-1997)
THE Series II VS Commodore is, along with the Falcon and Camry, exceptional value for money. The Executive equipment includes power steering and six-speaker sound system. Interior space is good but does not quite match the Falcon. The 3.8-litre V6 has a power output of 147kW with good low speed torque and surprisingly good fuel economy.

FORD FALCON 4D SEDAN (1995-1996)
THE Falcon scores with the most interior space, plenty of boot space and a 4.0-litre engine which is the most powerful of this group with 157kW. The cost is higher fuel consumption and suspension biased towards ride comfort. The equipment level is competitive and includes a driver's airbag.

SUBARU LIBERTY 4D SEDAN (1989-1998)
THE Liberty is a size smaller than the Magna but earned a Car Of The Year award in 1994 with a combination of good ride and handling, high quality and occupant protection. The 2.2-litre, flat four engine is flexible and economical while producing 94kW, making it competitive in performance with its bigger rivals.

TOYOTA CAMRY 4D SEDAN (1993-1997)
THE Camry's bland exterior hides a competent, well finished car with interior space which almost matches the Magna. Engineering technology from Lexus made the Camry quiet and smooth. The 2.2- litre, twin cam, four-cylinder engine with 95kW is a good compromise between acceleration and fuel economy while equipment is competitive with the Magna.
