MITSUBISHI'S all-new Mk2 Magna was bigger, stronger, quieter, better equipped and more refined and conservatively styled than before. The old TN/TP-based wagon carried through to the introduction of the new locally designed TR version in May ’92. The TR featured a comprehensively revised version of the ageing 2.6-litre Astron II four-cylinder engine, with EFI initially as standard, for a power hike to 98kW. Transmission choices and the Executive/SE/Elite designations were carried over. But the base GLX returned in October ’91, equipped with the old 83kW carburettor engine. In March ’93 the Magna Executive sedan and wagon aimed for Falcon and Commodore conquest sales with the option of the imported 120kW 3.0L V6 engine garnered from its upmarket KR Verada twin. And unlike the Verada, the Magna V6 could be had with a five-speed manual gearbox. Bigger wheels, central locking and new trim accompanied the V6 versions. A redesigned grille and taillight valance, revised cabin trim, the addition of more standard features, new model designations and the option of ABS and a driver’s airbag on V6 models make up the TS facelift from March '94. The V6 range was extended with the SE and the Elite disappeared. The old-shape TS wagon soldiered on until the all-new TE wagon landed in March '97.
