Mitsubishi recalls Lancer, Outlander

About 21,000 vehicles are being recalled in the national campaign, which according to Product Recalls Australia (PRA) involves the brake booster check valve sticking.
“After starting, if the vehicle is only driven at low speed with minimal or no throttle opening, an increased brake pedal effort may be required on the first braking application because of the possibility of the brake booster check valve sticking,” PRA said in its recall notice.
An MMAL spokesperson told GoAuto this week that although 20,989 vehicles were being recalled, no problems had been reported in Australia.
The models affect Lancer and Outlander models manufactured before December 2008. All affected owners will be notified and asked to schedule their vehicle in with a Mitsubishi dealer, who will replace the affected parts at no cost.
This is the second major braking-related issue to surface in recent weeks, after Ford Australia’s confirmation that the front brake hoses on its Territory SUV could, under certain operating conditions, develop a brake fluid leak.
More than 83,000 SX and SY Territory models became the subject of a recall notice after it was found that the problem could result in increased brake pedal travel and reduced braking effectiveness of the vehicle. It did not include the Turbo model variant.
