Mini ups pricing, gear for light-car range

MINI Australia has added advanced safety features and more equipment to its Hatch, 5-door and Convertible line-up, increasing pricing to reflect the improved gear, while it has also tweaked the specification of its Countryman SUV.
Starting with the three-door Hatch, pricing has risen by $350, $800 and $500 for Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works (JCW) grades respectively, which now start at $30,250, $40,700 and $50,400 before on-road costs.
5-door models also receive the same price hike, with Cooper grades now at $31,500 and Cooper S variants starting at $41,950. No high-performance 5-door JCW is available.
As for Mini Convertibles, the Cooper grade now costs $41,400 (+$500), the Cooper S is $48,700 (+$800) and the top-tier JCW drop-top is priced at $58,400 (+$500).
However, to offset the increase in pricing, Mini’s Driver Assistant Package is now standard across the brand’s light-car range, which bundles forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, high-beam assist and speed sign recognition.
The Hatch, 5-door and Convertible line-up also gain keyless entry and start.
Furthermore, Cooper S grades are now fitted with a Professional Navigation System 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is also included as standard equipment for all Countryman variants.
As a result, all Countryman grades rise $300 in price baring the top-spec JCW, with the Cooper kicking off the line-up at $42,200, the Cooper D available from $46,200, the Cooper S priced at $49,200 and the Cooper SD wearing a $53,200 pricetag.
For reference, the Countryman JCW retains its $59,900 retail price.
Mini Australia general manager Brett Waudy said the changes to the brand’s line-up are expected to resonate with buyers.
“These additions further display our commitment to delivering continually improved substance to the Mini range,” he said.
“By adding-in key safety and convenience features, we have enhanced the customer experience while representing better value than ever.”
For the first quarter of the year, Mini’s Hatch, 5-door and Convertible line-up has hit 565 sales, representing 63 per cent of the brand’s overall 2019 tally.
Meanwhile, the Countryman has contributed 250 units so far in 2019, a small 15.5 per cent dip over the same period last year.
