Mini TLC package a winner for brand

Mini Australia says it is pleased with the progress of its $850 Mini TLC service program that was introduced earlier this year, with buyers responding well to the initiative.

Modelled off a similar program from sister company BMW, the TLC package covers the costs of a basic service at an authorised Mini garage for five years or 70,000km, and includes engine oil and filter, air, clutch fuel and micro filters, brake fluid and a safety check.

BMW Group Australia general manager or corporate communications Lenore Fletcher told GoAuto at the Mini 5-door launch in Adelaide that the program has been a resounding success for the brand.

“It really is a no-brainer, and that’s why we’ve had such a huge take up on it,” she said.

Wear and tear items like wiper blades, brake pads and rotors can be included for additional cost, which is negotiated directly with the dealer. The coverage period can also be extended prior to the expiry of the current plan.

“What it does do, from our point of view, is that it not only offers the customer the opportunity to get a really, really good deal, but it keeps us in touch with the customer as well, which is important to us.”The package can be bought any time up to a year after initial purchase, and can also be transferred on if the car is sold. It’s available on every car in the Mini line-up.

Mini vehicles operate on a Condition-Based Service basis essentially, the car lets you know when, for example, an oil change should be performed. The Mini TLC deal operates under the proviso that the owner responds to the messages that the CBS system provides.

While capped-price servicing is, of course, nothing new, Mini is one of the few prestige brands to offer it.
