MGF is powered by Rover's 1796cc, 16-valve, twin cam, K-Series engine, with the VVC model gaining variable valve control to boost power to 107kW at 7000rpm and torque to 174Nm at 4500rpm. Understanding VVC requires something akin to an engineering degree, but in essence it constantly varies inlet cam opening and closing periods over a broad range of performance requirements. Performance figures put the mid-engine/rear-drive MGF VVC in the mid-seven seconds over 100m. It sups on premium unleaded.
