MG Motor prices remainder of MG4 range

BY MATT BROGAN | 9th May 2023

MG MOTOR Australia has locked in pricing for its entire three-variant MG4 range this week, the all-electric hatch retailing from $44,990 plus on-road costs in entry-grade Excite form.

The Chinese importer had previously announced pricing for its mid-tier MG4 Essence only, which remains priced at $47,990 +ORCs.

Offering what MG says is “affordable, zero-emissions motoring without compromise”, the MG4 range offer both 64kWh and 77kWh battery packs, providing a driving range of up to 530km. The 64kWh battery is capable of being charged at up to 138kW (DC) for a 10 to 80 per cent change time of just 28 minutes.

With a five-star EuroNCAP safety score and an extensive list of standard equipment, the MG4 Essence is built upon MG’s new made-for-electric Modular Scalable Platform (MPS), bringing benefits that include 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, 150kW of power, rear-wheel drive agility and a low centre of gravity.

Currently offered only in two-wheel drive form, MG says its scalable platform is configurable for its X-Power all-wheel drive system, and that AWD is under consideration for the Australian market.

A smaller, 51kWh battery model is also understood to be on the radar for the local line-up.

For now, the MG4 is specified with a unique twin aero spoiler at the rear, and the choice of 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels depending on variant. LED lighting features front and rear with Essence models characterised by a black roof and “distinctive rear centre light bar with constellation design”.

Six exterior colours are available including Dover White, Brixton Blue, Black Pearl (metallic), Camden Grey (metallic), Dynamic Red (tri-coat), Volcano Orange (tri-coat) and Sterling Silver.

MG says the design of the ‘4’ centres around space, technology, affordability, and driver engagement.

The hatch-style body offers 363 litres of cargo space with the rear seats in place and 1177 litres all told.

Importantly, the MG4 is offered as standard with the full suite of MG’s Pilot advanced driver assistance technologies.

The package includes AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, intelligent speed limit assist with traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, driver attention alert and intelligent high beam assist.

Essence grades further benefit from blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and door opening warning, as well as MG’s iSmart system which offers internet connectivity, voice activation and remote-control features.

The MG4 EV also carries MG’s seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty as

standard.

Speaking at the recent Fully Charged Live event in Sydney, MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao said the brand’s EV range is representative of its commitment to making electric vehicles accessible to everyone.

“MG Motor is very excited to be a part of the inaugural Fully Charged Live event here in Australia. So much so that we have decided to use this event as a platform to announce two major milestones in the Australian and New Zealand EV landscape,” he said.

“Following the success of the ZS EV in September last year, we have listened to our customers’ feedback and have fast-tracked the arrival of our new ZS EV Long Range.

“We know Australians love to drive and now they can go even further thanks to a larger 72kWh battery pack and 440km range in the ZS EV Long Range.

“Equally, for this reason, we felt there was no better stage than Fully Charged Live to offer a glimpse of MG’s future in previewing our first global modular scalable platform in the MG4 and we know you’ll be as excited as we are to see it on Aussie and NZ roads in H2 this year.”
