THE SL roadster is the range-topping convertible of the Mercedes-Benz stable. It comes in several flavours, including V6, V8 and AMG V8, a V12 and an AMG twin-turbo V12. The SL63 AMG uses the naturally-aspirated 6.2-litre AMG V8 producing 368kW and 720Nm, with a revised seven-speed automatic with a wet clutch instead of a torque converter for faster shifts. No SL is cheap, but the SL63 is one of the more expensive models. Since the luxury car tax was increased its price has soared to $401,235. As you would expect from a car that costs this much, the big Merc comes with all the luxury gear, including leather seats, carbon fibre trim, satellite navigation, heated and ventilated seats and a TV and DVD player.
