Radio static continues

THE saga surrounding the introduction of the ultra-wideband (UWB) vehicle radar technology in Australia, which has restricted the introduction of intelligent cruise control on vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz S-class, continues to drag on.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is now seeking comments on the proposed variation of the Australian Radiofrequency Spectrum Plan from interested parties, which close on April 19.

The proposed variation of the ARSP are designed to support the introduction of UWB radar technology in the 22-26.5 GHz frequency band, which would allow the introduction of current technology available in overseas cars.

The authority is also seeking comment on the proposed variations to the licensing structure involving the technology.
