JAGUAR SOVEREIGN 4D SEDAN (1987-1997)
THE big cats have always been renown for performance and luxury, although reliability is sometimes suspect. A 4.0-litre engine drives the rear wheels through a four-speed auto. ABS, alloy wheels, air-conditioning, cruise control, central locking, leather trim, power steering/windows, radio/cassette player and trip computer are standard.

BMW E32 7 Series 4D SEDAN (1988-1996)
LUXURIOUS with impressive performance and handling but suffered some mechanical problems and never quite lived up to the BMW benchmark. ABS, alarm system, alloy wheels, cruise control, central locking, fog lights, leather trim, metallic paint, power front seats, power steering, self-levelling suspension and radio/cassette are standard.

LEXUS LS400 4D SEDAN (1990-1995)
TOYOTA-made Japanese challenger to the Europeans. Uncannily quiet and smooth with silky 4.0-litre quad cam V8 driving the rear wheels through a four-speed auto. Superb on-road performer. Driver's airbag, ABS, climate control, alarm system, cruise control, central locking, leather trim, power front seats/mirrors/steering/windows, sound system.

AUDI V8 QUATTRO 4D SEDAN (1990-1992)
FAIRLY rare and more sporty than the others with a powerful 3.5- litre V8 engine driving the front wheels through a four-speed auto. Mechanically complex, repairs expensive. ABS, climate control, alloy wheels, cruise control, CD player, central locking, leather trim, power front seats/steering/ sunroof/windows, trip computer and radio/cassette are standard.
