Mercedes-Benz announces new five-year warranty

MERCEDES-BENZ Australia has announced a new factory backed five-year warranty on every new vehicle sold as of April 1, including all AMG variants, the all-electric EQC and Mercedes-Benz Vans range.

 

Announced this morning, the new warranty comes with the added bonus of unlimited kilometres for the entire passenger vehicle line-up aside for those used for commercial applications – taxi, ride sharing etc. – in which case kilometres will be capped at 200,000.

 

Regardless of use, the complimentary Roadside Assistance program has also been extended from three to five years for all cars, vans or utes.

 

The announcement gives Mercedes a leg up on its primary German competitors, with BMW and Audi only offering a three-year assurance period.

 

According to Mercedes-Benz CEO and managing director Horst von Sanden, introducing a standard five-year manufacturer’s warranty reinforced the premium brand’s commitment to enhancing its customer ownership experience.

 

“With a five-year manufacturer’s warranty across our entire Cars and Vans range supported by our existing capped price servicing and service plan portfolio, customers can have increased flexibility and certainty throughout their journey with Mercedes-Benz,” he said.

 

Things become a little more complicated regarding the Mercedes-Benz Vans line-up with differing kilometre caps and battery warranties.

 

When purchased and used in a private capacity, all V-Class, remaining X-Classes and Marco Polo variants will be covered by the same five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as the passenger vehicle line-up, including the five years of complimentary roadside assistance.

 

A three year/unlimited kilometre warranty will also apply to the 12V battery on these variants.

 

When purchased for commercial means, the same five-year coverage period applies but mileage is capped at 250,000km, as is the three-year battery assurance.

 

These latter commercial clauses also apply to the bigger Vito, Valente and Sprinter vans given their designation as commercial vehicles form the get go.

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia Pacific managing director Diane Tarr said the new warranty structure would provide greater certainty for fleets, owner-drivers and private users alike.

 

“We understand our commercial customers in particular are looking closely at whole-of-life costs, and that transparency in servicing and running costs is crucial,” she said.

 

“The new five-year manufacturer’s warranty further solidifies the value proposition in our compelling product line-up.”

 

In an added bonus for new Mercedes owners, there will be a one-month grace period in which the new warranty coverage will be backdated and applied to new vehicles sold as of March 1.

 

So far this year ending February, Mercedes has sold 4531 cars and 887 vans, 2.5 and 4.7 per cent respectively down on the same period last year, although both experienced marginal sales increases last month (cars +2% and vans +0.6%).
