M-class turns ten

THE second-highest selling model in Mercedes-Benz Australia’s line-up – the big M-class SUV – arrived here almost 10 years ago and the company is selling a special-edition version of the second-generation model that could save buyers more than $12,000.

Although priced from $91,100 for the 350 Edition 10 (a premium of $2000 over the standard petrol ML350), M-B Australia claims the 10th anniversary model contains more than $14,000 worth of extra features.

Some of these – including five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels finished in titanium, twin-split chrome tailpipes, a grille finished in titanium with chrome highlights, two-tone leather upholstery, black fabric roof lining and Edition 10 floor mats – are unique to this limited-edition model.

Other equipment added to the M-class Edition 10 includes active dark-tinted bi-Xenon headlights with washers, an electric glass tilt/slide sunroof, stainless steel front and rear under-body guards, COMAND APS navigation in-car entertainment system, reversing camera, sports instruments and aluminium pedals with rubber studs.

The Edition 10 models come in petrol or turbo-diesel models (the 320 CDI Edition 10 costs $3000 more at $94,100) and are available in white, metallic silver or metallic black.

Globally, the M-class Benz has sold 850,000 units since 1997 and 19,000 of those have found homes in Australia since being launched here in September 1998.
