EVEN though the literature for most SUVs and dual-cab utes will make mention of ‘rugged terrain’ somewhere in the shiny catalogue, there are few cars on the market today as comfortable with the concept of ‘rugged’ than the Mercedes-Benz G300 CDI 4x4 cab-chassis.

With that tagline, mind you, comes not a skerrick of what would normally be considered de-rigueur for a daily driven car, and an absolute certainty for a Merc that costs $119,900 before on road costs.

Carpet? Soft-touch points? Electric windows? None of the above apply here, but the G300, built on top of Mercedes’ G-Professional chassis that can trace its lineage directly back four decades, is not your typical Mercedes-Benz.
