Special-edition Mercedes E-Class announced

MERCEDES-BENZ has announced special editions of its E250 petrol and E250 CDI diesel sedans, bringing with them $5100 worth of extra value for a limited time.

Pricing for the Special Edition E250 starts at $103,800 excluding on-road costs, while the Special Edition E250 CDI is $106,300, which is a $6900 premium over the regular E250 variants, but the extras add up to about $12,000 worth of goodies.

The Special Edition adds more features and the Vision Package to the E250 and E250 CDI, which includes 19-inch AMG wheels, 360-degree camera, heated front seats, wood and leather steering wheel, illuminated front door sills, DAB+ digital radio, Harman Kardon Logic surround sound system and a panoramic sunroof.

This extra equipment comes on top of the E250 and E250 CDI’s regular standard features which includes LED headlights, automatic parking system, collision prevention warning, reversing camera, shifting paddles, seven-inch display screen, and multimedia system with internet Powering the E250 is 155kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, and under the bonnet of the C250CDI is a 125kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four cylinder unit. Power is sent to the rear wheels in both variants through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz previously announced its nine-speed automatic transmission would make its world debut in the E350 BlueTec, and while Mercedes-Benz Australia senior manager corporate communications David McCarthy confirmed that this variant will not be coming to Australia, he did say the nine-speed will see service next year in the sleek CLS500.

The new-generation E-Class line-up, which arrived in Australia in mid-2013 starts with the E200 from $80,400 and tops out with the E63 AMG S for $251,400.

The arrival of the heavily revised E-Class has been followed by an increase in sales, with the executive express shifting 791 in the first six months of the year, up 49.8 percent on the same period in 2013.
