WHILE the CLK adopts E-Class-style quad headlamps, the car's actually based on the just superseded C-Class. However, no panels are shared between the CLK and the C-Class. The CLK is also 82mm lower and 80mm longer than the C-Class, with a marginally wider track. The Elegance model tested here features chrome trim on the doorhandles and side window frames, and cast alloy wheels. The headlamps are actually smaller and raked back more steeply than E-Class. The headlamp lenses are made from a lightweight high-impact polycarbonate material. The two larger headlamps accommodate the dipped beams and direction indicators, the two smaller headlamps on the inside are for high beam and parking lights.
