Mercedes’ CLA has been a victim of its own success, with ever-extending waiting times around the world for the Hungarian-built coupe-sedan.

But that’s worked in Australia’s favour for once, with the 250 Sport 4Matic coming on stream later and the local distributors allowed first dibs, adding the security of AWD to the aborted FWD version at a reasonable $1500 premium.

The result may be the sweet spot in the CLA range.
