Sydney show: Bruising new Benz AMGs lob

BY JAMES STANFORD | 11th Oct 2007

MERCEDES-BENZ presented a mix of power and economy today at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. It launched two tyre-tearing AMG models and two economical diesel variants. The AMG cars included the incredibly potent CL65 coupe, packing a twin-turbo V12 with 450kW and a whopping 1000Nm of torque. The handcrafted 6.0-litre engine is enough to sling the super CL from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds. Available now, the CL65 costs $474,974. A blistering S63 was also unveiled, with a 6.2-litre V8 pumping out 386kW and 630Nm. The muscular S-class costs $349,974. For those who like the S-class, but do not have quite as much cash, Mercedes announced a diesel S320 at today’s show.

It will use a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel with 173kW and 540Nm, and arrive in January. No pricing is currently available. A slightly less potent version of that engine powers the C320 CDI sedan, which was launched today as the new C-class sedan flagship, priced at $92,800.
